God’s Great Love

God is love, and this we know,
For the Bible tells us so.
His love for us does abound;
There’s enough for all around.
He loves more than we can tell,
Though from innocence man fell.
Each, then, has a guilty heart;
By birth and choice, sin takes part.

Fellowship with God is lost;
Sin demands the highest cost.
It from heaven shuts us out,
Causes us God’s love to doubt,
Casts us under Satan’s spell,
Condemns us to death and hell,
Leads us on a path that’s wrong,
And o’er us its sway is strong.

But God’s love is greater still
Than any kind of evil;
Its stronger than all the rest,
Love that always knows what’s best,
When we are caught up in fear,
When our pain we cannot bear,
And when we’re filled with despair,
God’s love is still always there.

Because God’s love yet remains;
He the Enemy restrains,
Keeps his evilness at bay,
Until final judgment day.
Though his influence is great,
We can turn, it’s not too late,
That we might God come to know
While living life here below.

Then, from sin we may be free,
Saved from cruel penalty,
Loosed from Satan’s fatherhood
To the Father that’s all good.
Sometimes, though, we find it hard
To let down our lifelong guard,
Trust God to do what is right,
Follow in His loving light.

Friend, please don’t reject God’s plan,
Where He himself became man,
To bear our sins on the tree,
To forever make us free.
Give to Him what holds you back;
He will take care of your lack,
Replace your hate with His love,
Give eternal life above.
- Merrily
