When the leaders to Jesus came,
They brought a woman they did blame
For the sin she had committed,
But their reason they omitted.
For the woman they chose to use
So that Jesus they might accuse.
For the Pharisees, priests, and scribes,
Religious leaders of the tribes,
Were so fond of their traditions
And of their lofty positions,
That Jesus’ words they failed to heed,
And to see He was Christ indeed.
They believed not Jesus was God,
Come humbly to walk on this sod.
They did not understand His plan,
To take on the flesh of a man,
To suffer, die, and rise again
To save the souls of sinful men.
They doubted Christ was what He said,
The Living Water and the Bread.
Though some Jesus’ message believed,
Others were sure Jesus deceived.
To catch the Lord, they set a trap,
Which they hoped to close, with a snap.
Jesus heard as they quoted law,
But their true purpose surely saw.
For it was not justice that they sought,
But to challenge what Jesus taught.
So, while they gathered all around,
Jesus just drew on the ground.
The leaders continued to ask;
Jesus rose and removed their mask.
He answered them with a calm tone,
“He without sin cast the first stone.”
Then, He stooped back down to the ground.
There was not even a small sound.
One by one, they all went away;
None was left to condemn that day.
Jesus stood and asked who they were,
That still wanted to condemn her.
“No man” was the woman’s reply.
“Go, sin no more, neither do I.”
