Sometimes I get discouraged,
So, I just sit around and sigh,
Disheartened, not encouraged
To press on, not give up and die.
Sometimes I do naught but fail,
No matter how fiercely I try.
Against my lot I rail;
It seems all I can do is cry.
Sometimes I doubt my Savior
Because I don’t understand “why.”
With un-Christlike behavior
From fellow believers I shy.
Sometimes my troubles spiral;
On faulty thinking I rely.
Sin’s sickness seems so viral;
Away from all I’d like to fly.
BUT
When I’m o’erwhelmed, discouraged,
I can do more than sit and sigh;
My heart will be encouraged
If to my God I draw nigh.
When I falter and fail
And wonder why I even try,
God’s grace I shall avail,
So my cup will not run dry.
When I doubt my Savior,
To His purpose I’ll leave the “why.”
I’ll seek His loving favor,
His Spirit’s nudge I’ll not deny.
When troubles God’s love rival,
On His truthful Word I’ll rely,
Heed His call to revival,
And to my Lord for comfort fly.
